What’s Next…?

Okay, what’s next….?

How are you doing with your version of  Project Y-O-U?

The reinvention of  you?

Are you thinking about your purpose every opportunity you get during the day?  If you are, then I imagine you’re doing all that you need to do, using all of the resources at your disposal, and finding a way to make it happen.

If you’re not asking yourself  “What’s next?” on a regular basis, maybe you’re not really all that motivated to make it happen?  Maybe your dreams aren’t big enough?  Maybe you really don’t believe you can do this?

Thoreau had the answer to these questions:  “If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost, that’s where they should be. Now put foundations under them.”

Michael Neill put it this way:  “One of the best ways of staying motivated over time is to give yourself every opportunity to experience an ongoing sense of progress in pursuit of your dreams.  More than anything else, a ‘sense of progress’ will keep you moving in the direction of your dreams day by day and moment by moment.”

No one is more impatient than me.  I want it yesterday.

But I have to keep reminding myself that my happiness—and motivation—must come in the day-to-day, one-brick-at-a-time tasks.  So…I take my list and I run down it.  Knowing that each step I take moves me closer to my goal, my dream…

“Amazing things happen when you have a timeline of events that must take place in sequence to reach your dreams.  You know you’re on track.   It’s exhilarating!” — Paul McKenna

Do something every day that moves you in the direction of your goal. When you form a habit of doing this every day, you will be amazed at how much you can accomplish!

Remember:  “We must all suffer one of two things:  the pain of discipline or the pain of regret or disappointment.” — Jim Rohn

Setting Goals

Let’s dream a little…

Let’s set some goals.

This is your life you’re planning!

Find a quiet spot where you won’t be interrupted, and take some time to just dream…  Get an image—a vision—of how good your life can be and the person you would like to become.  Don’t place any limitations on yourself, your current skill level or abilities.  What do you want to accomplish in life?  What would you really like to do?  As best you can, define exactly what you want.

Make a list of everything you can think of that you’re going to have to do to achieve your goals.  When new action steps arise, add them to your list.

Now prioritize your list.

I use a five-column chart with these headings:  1)  Date  2) Action Step   3) Outcome and Evaluation  4)  Adjustment  5)  Continue…?

Date:   WHEN will I take action?

Action Step:   What do I need to DO?

Outcome/Evaluation:   What was the outcome?  How did it go?

Adjustment:   What ADJUSTMENTS do I need to make?

Continue?:   Do I continue taking this action?  Or do I revise it or take a different action?

In his book Unlimited Power, Tony Robbins lays out what he calls the Ultimate Success Formula.  Here is the essence of it:

1.  Clearly decide what it is you’re absolutely committed to achieving.
2.  Take immediate action.
3.  Note what’s working and what’s not.
4.  Alter your approach until you achieve the results you want, using whatever life gives you along the way.

Pretty basic approach.  But it works.

Beware!  Putting your goals in writing and getting a clear vision of the life you want is a powerful step toward making it a reality!

We Become What We Think About

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been interested in all things self-improvement.

I want to know WHY I do the things I do. I want to know what makes me tick.  Because once I get a better understanding of my basic disposition and the root causes of my behavior, I’ll be better equipped to change a bad habit or pattern of behavior or thought.

I’ll be able to make significant, lasting—permanent—change.  And I’ll be able to accomplish MORE and feel better about myself.

But something happened along my journey…

I discovered that I wasn’t just looking for information that would help me to enjoy a better life or gain a better understanding of myself.

I was searching for something that would put me over the top.  To put it another way, I was searching for the “secret of success” in terms of:

How to Set a BIG Goal and Achieve It

I wanted to know if there was a Master Key that, if I really understood and applied it, it would all but guarantee my success.

And because that is what I was looking for…that is exactly what I found.

There is a key, a secret, if you will.

There is something that—if you really understand it—it will completely alter your outlook, change your whole approach to life.  If you’re ready for it and you put it into practice,

your   life   will   never   be   the   same   again!

But the question is:  Are you ready?

Well…ready or not, here it is:

I.  You must establish a PURPOSE—a Definite Major Purpose.

II.  You must be willing to stake your entire existence on achieving it.

III.  You must create a burning desire for it—and continue to increase and intensify your desire over time.

IV.  You must create a single-minded determination and perseverance to achieve it—no matter what stands in your way.

There it is.

All you need is a purpose, a plan, and a burning desire to achieve it.

It works every time.  Why?   Because it’s one of the great laws of the universe.  And here’s why it works:

We   become   what   we   think   about.

The Bible says, “As a man thinks, so is he.”  – Proverbs 23:7

James Allen put it this way:

“A particular train of thought persisted in cannot fail to produce its results on character and circumstance.”

Our dominating thoughts and the images we project in our mind will eventually produce results—good or bad—in our outward, physical reality.

And it makes perfect sense.  If we’re thinking about our purpose every opportunity we get during the day, then we will do all that we need to do, use all of the resources at our disposal, and find a way to make it happen.

Benjamin Disraeli wrote:  “Nurture great thoughts, for you will never go any higher than your thoughts.”

Sooo…we must control our thoughts if we’re ever going to control our lives.

Do You Believe?

Imagine you woke up one morning and your life was exactly how you wanted it to be.

Take a minute and visualize that scene…

What would that world look like?

Who would be a part of your life?

How would you feel inside?

What would you be doing?

Can you see it?

Do you believe it’s possible?

I mean, do you really believe it’s possible?

Because you must first believe it can happen.

You have to believe you have the power to change your life and create a better one.

And let me assure you….you DO!

“Within you right now is the power to do things you never dreamed possible. This power becomes available to you just as soon as you can change your beliefs.” — Maxwell Maltz

Jesus said, “Anything is possible if a person believes.” — Mark 9:23

Anything?

Anything!

Do you believe it?

Decide what you want yet…?

Some people believe success only comes to those fortune favors.

Eh…wrong.

Success doesn’t just happen. It is the result of a deliberate way of thinking and a consistent level of action that supports it.

I believe there are eight essential elements involved in achieving a goal and a greater level of happiness in life.

1.  Believe It’s Possible.  If you really don’t believe you can achieve something, chances are pretty good you won’t.

2.  Dream!  Really dream.  Aim High.  Set BIG Goals.  Don’t put limitations on yourself or what you think you can achieve right now.

3.  Discover your gifts.  Define your purpose in life.   Get passionate about it.  Own it!

4.  Write it down.  Create an Action Plan.  Set measurable goals with specific timeframes.

5.  Develop Your Confidence.  Get out there and stretch yourself, make some mistakes, get some experience, fall down a few times, get some bumps and bruises, learn, grow…

6.  Visualize the Outcome.  Spend time in the movie theatre of your mind. See yourself doing things well and saying the right things. Feel what that feels like. Every successful person visualizes an outcome before making it a reality.

7.  Learn Positive Self Talk.  Be kind and say the right things to yourself.  Be your own best friend.  Learn how to motivate and push yourself.

8.  Maintain Balance and Perspective.   Take time to put the brakes on, step back, and get some perspective.  If your life is out of balance, reprioritize and create a better balance.

“Studies have shown that less than three percent of us write our goals down. In fact, most people spend more time writing a shopping list than they do making a list of the really important things they want out of life.” – Paul McKenna

“The first step to getting the things you want out of life is this: Decide what you want.”  - Ben Stein

So there it is…

Decide what you want.

Write it down.

Think about it every chance you get.

You will be amazed at how quickly you will attract more of what you want to yourself!

Try it!

The Plan…

Here’s  The Plan:

Create a BIG GOAL.  Get a vivid vision of it!

Write it down.

Think about it every chance you get—from all possible angles.

Set MEASURABLE goals—with specific timeframes.

Get enthusiastic about it!

Get emotional—even personal if you must.

Begin to open yourself up to RISK,   CHANGE,  and   OPPORTUNITY.

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and learn from them…

Keep track of your daily achievements.

Start a journal and begin documenting your journey, your excellent adventure!

Work toward your vision every day…

Dale Carnegie:  “Every person is really two people; the person you are today and the more dynamic, extraordinary person you could still become tomorrow.”

Why NOT become that more dynamic, extraordinary person? And what better day than today?

What Are You Waiting For?

So…have you decided what you want and the person you want to become?

Have you decided on how good you want to be?

Ok.

One more thing…

Dare to be a little crazy!

Being a little crazy sure has helped me.

My favorite Yiddish proverb is:

“Everyone is crazy good at something.”

What are YOU crazy good at?  Or believe, if you really worked at it, you could be crazy good at?

The better question is:

What is the gift of God in you?

One more question…

What are you waiting for?

If you’re waiting for the right time to take action, let me break it to you…

There IS no perfect time!

Don’t delay!  Conditions are never going to be perfect. Don’t wait until you have enough money, or once you take care of this or do that.  They are ALL  just bad excuses, and you know it!

Start your excellent adventure today.

Have fun with it!  Laugh at yourself!

Don’t take yourself too seriously.

And don’t be afraid to go in search of your dreams.

Paulo Coelho, in his book The Alchemist, says:

“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second’s encounter with God and with eternity.”

Whatever your gift is–music, film, marketing, home improvement, cars, technology–whatever it is:

Find it.  KNOW it.  Grow into it.  Polish and sharpen it.  Own it!

Follow your heart…and begin living your life fully alive!
